The remote control department, along with Gumi Plant, was established in April of 1975 and now has the best equipment and manufacturing capacity of all the remote control plants around the world. Such capacity has allowed the department to reach the production goal of 100 million remote control units in June 1999 and now the department is one step away from breaking the record of accumulated 300 million unit production in 2005.

The quality control system has been fortified in 1996 with the ISO 9001 certification, and a research institute with some 50 researchers has been established to develop all products in-house, aiming to secure international competitiveness.

Especially the high-quality PDA style Touch Panel remote control developed in-house in 2004 has been recognized in the American market for its superior technology. Over 1,500 K units of the product are being manufactured in Gumi Plant every month, and are supplied and exported to domestic and international appliance companies. To secure a place in the highly competitive international market, local plants have been established in Mexico, China and Indonesia while a satellite office in Frankfurt, Germany is looking into exploring the European market. Another satellite office in New York is aiming to make an inroad into the American market.

Moreover, "HANARO REMOCON" has taken over 70% of the domestic remote control market, and a national after-service and warranty network is implemented to serve the customers better.
